Coal Dust Explosion – Report on Tests at the Bełchatów Power Plant

Coal Dust Explosion – Report on Tests at the Bełchatów Power Plant

On 22 September, the second-ever symposium on the broadly defined explosive safety in the energy sector was held at the Bełchatów Power Plant (PGE GiEK SA Oddział Elektrowania Bełchatów).

The scientific and technical symposium was organised by the Company Circle of the Association of Polish Engineers and Mechanical Technicians at the Bełchatów Power Plant and WOLFF GROUP. The event brought together dozens of participants from the PGE GROUP – the largest company in terms of revenue of the energy sector in Poland, the Group’s affiliated companies and other companies from the energy sector.

“The icing on the cake” of the symposium was a show of the force of explosions of small amounts of dust as well as a demonstration of explosion protections. The symposium participants had an opportunity to see explosions caused by the dust of lignite, hard coal, as well as – for comparison – tea. The demonstration reflected the actual phenomena occurring at a dust explosion. For security reasons, this part of the symposium was held at a safe distance from the production facilities and under the supervision of a specialized team of engineers from WOLFF GROUP.

We invite you to watch a short video recording of the symposium (only in polish):
